In 1992, just after graduating from high school Amanda Bossard started her education in marine biology at Alaska Pacific University, Anchorage in Alaska. Bossard got her start in the commercial seafood industry in the year 1999. At the time she was employed on Murat Aritan's 65 foot halibut boat, which was later converted into a fish tender. Bossard got married to Aritan in 1999, and the two have joined to defend their businesses. Both are advocates of saving and profiting from renewable resources in the fishing industry. Otolith launched its direct market wholesale distributor in Philadelphia in the year Bossard came back from her home home with her two daughters, Bella 3 years old and Andre 1year old, to Philadelphia. The couple is separated by 5 months and more for her to concentrate on her goals in terms of finances and the environment. Bossard along with Isabella as well as Andre (ages 10 and 12 respectively) return each year, from July to August and continue to Southeast Alaska for the summer harvest of wild salmon. With a small 42 troller Bossards are able to capture salmon with hooks. They then work with Aritan in a local processing plant for two weeks.
